Buyers are expressing their frustration with latest update to the eBay app that inserts intrusive and disruptive ads into purchase history experience.

Annoying pop ups

Frequently Bought Together in purchases history makes it unusable.

Please remove this feature ASAP, or provide and opt out feature.

If you really need to have the feature, move it to the bottom of the details screen after you click on your item in purchase history.

It also has duplicates that I can see on the screen.

Hi, just updated my app and instead of multiple repeats of my purchases I’m now getting hundreds of advertisements in my purchase history. These are sponsored advertisements and are making tracking purchases difficult. These advertisements are between each purchase and there are lots of them.

Can anyone tell me how to reverse the update. I’d rather have multiple repeats of things I’ve bought than hundreds of intrusive adverts.

The update appears to be global, with buyers in the UK adding their concerns as well.

New app update..Frequently brought.. Spam in purchases section.
What are you doing eBay? Why have you now filled our purchase history section with spam? “frequently brought with this item”... Keeping track of our purchases is so important and not having that section of the app littered with spam is vital to track past purchases statuses etc.... Why have yo…

What are you doing eBay? Why have you now filled our purchase history section with spam? "frequently brought with this item"...

Keeping track of our purchases is so important and not having that section of the app littered with spam is vital to track past purchases statuses etc...

Why have you added this nonsense? Nobody has asked for it.

Longtime eBay community member EburtonLab suggested using a desktop or mobile browser instead of the app as a temporary workaround and provided tips on how buyers can report their negative experience and provide feedback about this update directly to eBay.

eBay seems to have added those suggestions to the Purchases screen shown in the app.

You can avoid those suggestions by avoiding the eBay app and using a browser to go to ebay.com instead.

Issues with the app can be reported by shaking your phone while the app is active; I think this qualifies as "an issue with the app".

The continued push to monetize every pixel on the site comes as eBay reported a significant slowdown in ad revenue growth in their Q2 2024 earnings report.

As eBay continues to ratchet up take rate through ads and other fees, buyers and sellers both have reported eBay engaging in questionable practices veering uncomfortably close to (and in some cases crossing the line into) dark pattern design practices.

Buyers have complained about post-purchase "You Might Also Like" pop up ads that may lead consumers into placing orders they did not intend to.

eBay Post-Purchase “You Might Also Like” Pop Up Ads Increase Cancellations & Chargebacks
eBay buyers confused by new advertising ploy showing items “you might also like” in post-purchase pop up, increasing cancellations & chargebacks.

And sellers have questioned "Sponsored Items From This Seller" module that features listings from different sellers as well as Seller Hub pop ups that may inadvertently create expensive cost per click ad campaigns.

Is eBay Promoted Listings Advanced CPC Campaign Popup Predatory Dark Pattern Design?
As eBay grows Promoted Listings Advanced Cost Per Click ad revenue, are they using predatory dark pattern design to trick sellers into signing up?

It is Slowwwwwww and is more expensive to the buyer. In the past items I have ordered will sit at the hub for around 2 weeks. I avoid ebay unless I cannot get it elsewhere.

Hi, I have a friend who had an interesting experience recently that fell under this issue. They sold an item, packed and dispatched to the UK Ebay hub, this was midway through the period as the pause occurred. They then received a message from the buyer that they had checked tracking and discovered that the item had disappeared on ebay, no advice. It then turned out that the tracking had been fudged and the package was with them but not forwarded on to the USA. A few hours of to and fro to get the answer that it was due to the tariff dilemma. NO fault of the buyer(who had paid) or the seller ((who had been paid) and a strange response that the item could not be delivered. The buyer would be refunded in full, the seller would keep payment and the item would not be returned. Strange, Ebay must be hurting paying our both sides of the deal+

  1. Start building out the brand and promoting the heck out of Canadian sellers to our domestic market. Work with Federal/Provincial level governments in the push to build a strong presence here in Canada.

  2. Add other calculated shipping options than Canada Post UPS/FedEx for domestic shipping - partner with couriers nationwide, leverage agreements and software integrations with courier reseller platforms such as Stallion Express. Build out a crowd sourced network using national/regional retail locations as drop points for rural regions, leveraging transport networks to move packages to courier pickup points, akin to the UK courier model but adapted to the Canadian realities.

  3. Create a centralized international shipping clearing house to aide micro businesses with affordable shipping rates and customs clearance to avoid pitfalls and complexities (akin to US eIS).

  4. Bring features forward to the platform from other localizations, such as prepaid best offer acceptance, etc.
