eBay Australia has released their April 2025 Seller Update and the big news is sellers can now use AI to respond to buyer messages!

Once sellers enable AI Responses, buyers will receive answers to their questions in seconds as eBay.ai will automatically respond using information already available in the listing and order details.

AI Responses | Seller Centre

Here's how eBay says it works:

Once the feature is available, you'll get a pop-up notification in My eBay Messages prompting you to enable it. Once you opt in, AI Responses will answer buyer questions on your behalf, only using information available in your listing and order details.

eBay.ai will only respond when it can deliver accurate, relevant answers, and will avoid answering questions about pricing or offers. You'll have full control and will be able to see which responses are being sent to buyers. The feature can be disabled anytime.

Intelligent Assistance
Available 24/7 to provide your buyers with quick responses using information solely from your listings and order details

Carefully Crafted
Engages only when it can deliver relevant, accurate answers, and avoids questions about pricing or offers

Complete Control
Respond directly to your buyers, leave feedback to improve future responses, or disable the feature anytime

The option to opt in or disable the feature is currently available only for select sellers, but eBay expects to progressively launch it to all sellers in Australia throughout April 2025 - stay tuned for updates!

The rest of the eBay Australia April 2025 update contains mostly previously announced features and changes including updated pre-owned clothing conditions, listing Q&As, streamlined business policies, safety standards for e-mobility devices, and new important requirements for Mexico.

I am in Canada. 90% of my goods are made in China. And then to have the other 10% tariffed will kill my business. 90% of my sales are to the US. Buyers will not be willing to pay an extra 54% as in the case with China goods. And I am not selling items from Temu and Shein. I am mostly selling vintage toys. I will have to move all of my items to sell only in Canada and lose all my US customers. I started reselling about 5 years ago and this was supposed to continue into my retirement. Goods that are retired can not be manufactured again. There is no plant that can be opened to make something that was built in the early 2000s. I would be shocked if Mattel would move their plant to the US.

So, ebay is doing an "intentional test" AT THE BUYER'S EXPENSE, with no indication this is happening until a bid is made. Seems like fraudulent behavior to me. What's the recourse for buyers?
