eBay Australia has announced the expansion of the gated Seller Refurbished program to more categories including Video Game Consoles, Cell Phone Accessories, Speakers & Home Audio and Security Cameras.

Sellers who wish to use the Seller Refurbished condition will now have to be pre-approved and meet eBay's eligibility requirements. Sellers already listing in these categories may also have to change multi-sku variation listings into individual listings in some cases.

New categories are being added to the Refurbished program in 2022. If you list in these categories, and use Seller Refurbished item condition or condition-related and grade-related multi-SKU variants, your listings may be impacted while we expand the program.

  • Cell Phone Accessories | Headsets (80077)
  • Home Speakers & Subwoofers (14990)

  • Snow Blowers (42230)
  • Power Tool Sets (177000)
  • Circular Saws (71307)

What you need to do

We understand this may be inconvenient, but we hope the addition of these categories to the program will better showcase your items and create a simpler and more reliable shopping experience for your customers.

  • Create any new listings for Seller Refurbished items in the "Used" item condition listing process.
  • Create a new listing for each condition variation (e.g. Grade A, Grade B, etc.) in the "Used" item condition.
  • The item’s condition will be required to be added in the item title and description instead.

How to get involved in Refurbished Program

  • Our Refurbished Program allows pre-qualified eBay sellers exclusive use of three refurbished item conditions (Excellent - Refurbished, Very Good - Refurbished and Good - Refurbished) on their listings
  • To qualify to list with the new item conditions, sellers must meet a strict set of requirements. eBay will review your inventory and account to ensure they meet the program requirements.
  • For more details, including eligibility requirements, eligible categories and how it works, please visit our Refurbished page.
  • To apply, please fill out the Refurbished Program Application or email refurbishedau@ebay.com

The eligibility criteria is pretty stiff, mandating all original accessories must be included as well as a 1 year seller-provided warranty

All items listed with the above item conditions must:

  • be fully functional and be inspected, cleaned and tested by the seller
  • be shipped in new or original packaging
  • include original or brand-new accessories
  • adhere to the applicable item condition description and requirements (see below)
  • include a 1-year seller provided warranty which is consistent with or in addition to the consumer guarantees available under the Australian Consumer Law

Service Requirements

All items listed with the above item conditions must offer:

  • 0-1 day handling time
  • free shipping, with an express shipping option
  • 30 day returns

Performance Requirements.

To be considered for listing with the above item conditions, sellers must meet the following performance metrics:

  • Buyer Feedback: >98.5%
  • Significantly Not As Described (SNAD): <2.5%
  • Stockout rate: <1.5%
  • Late delivery rate: <6%
  • Item Not Received (INR): <0.8%
  • Cases closed without seller resolution: <0.25%
  • Return Rate: <8%

*eBay may exempt sellers from one or more of the above requirements. Additional requirements, including contractual requirements, apply prior to final approval. Seller participation in the Refurbished Program is at eBay’s absolute discretion.

It's interesting that eBay has added a notice stating they may exempt sellers from any of those requirements at their absolute discretion.

My guess is with Australia being fairly strict about consumer protection regulations, they didn't want to risk another embarrassing situation like they had in the US when they partnered with Samsung on a Refurbished promotion that violated their written policies and the return terms promised to buyers.

Happening to me too. On my active listings page (with the full list) it looks fine, but when I click on them, many have the random characters. I reported it, and that's when one glitch led to another! As I was typing the message after clicking the "?", letters were repeatedly not coming up (usually one or two at the end of a word). I was finally able to get the message entered, but how tedious!

I've been selling on ebay since 2003 but i had to get a new account because after having a perfect feedback with ZERO negative feedback, i had one sale go south where the item i had i simply couldn't find in my inventory! So i ended up Ebay roughly 250$. You'd think they'd call me or message me and work out a plan but no, immediately PAY NOW PAY NOW OR YOUR ACCOUNT GETS CLOSED! I sell hand to mouth and usually each sale gets spent on bills QUICK, so i told Ebay i could pay monthly or weekly and pay the balance off in a month or sooner. Anyways, they closed my perfect TRS account. I mean no sympathy or anything after roughly 20 something odd years...SO now my new account after not selling for several months has only a couple sales. I dunno if things have changed but traffic seems waaaaay down but with this last sale, a nice vintage DAVID YURMAN silver bracelet, i had to ship to an authenticator, which I've never had to do. Hey I'm all for it because on ebay the last 20 years, the silver jewelery market has been HIGH RISK fakes labeled .925 yet NOT! LOL So I'm ok with an authenticator program that actually WORKS! So now the bracelet has been in Carlsbad since Monday May 19th 2025. I'm hoping it gets verified by tomorrow. I'll keep you all posted
