eBay users are being stopped in their tracks as sensitive security setting incorrectly flags them as bots.

Getting this message when changing seller. only seems to be on FIREFOX.

"As you were browsing eBay, something about your browser made us think you were a bot. There are a few reasons this might happen:

You're a power user moving through this website with super-human speed.
You've disabled JavaScript in your web browser.
A third-party browser plugin, such as Ghostery or NoScript, is preventing JavaScript from running."

Is this an Ebay problem? If I cannot get to my seller page then I cannot list or sell or ship.

Some users indicate the error seems to happen more frequently when they have multiple tabs or browser windows open.

I've seen this before in Firefox. I typically open a bunch of pages in new tabs and then go look at them. That was the only reason I could come up with for the issue. None of the three bullet points applied to me.

I'm having the same issue on my Chromebook. I am running Java as per the link that was provided in another response. I cleared my cache, closed my browser, and restarted and still get the error. I do have multiple tabs open, but I always do. First time getting this error. Fortunately, I can sign in using an Incognito window. What the heck, eBay?

As you were browsing eBay, something about your browser made us think you were a bot. There are a few reasons this might happen:

You're a power user moving through this website with super-human speed.
You've disabled JavaScript in your web browser.
A third-party browser plugin, such as Ghostery or NoScript, is preventing JavaScript from running.

Others report they are able to get the error to go away be clearing cookies and cache, restarting their computers, and/or using a different browser - however this method seems to only be a temporary solution at this point.

I had about 7 tabs open (F/B, ebay etc). I tried to log in as per normal with only 2 tabs open. Sign in accepted my user name and password and then up popped the message. Tried it several times and finally changed to Goggle chrome and signed in as usual. it worked

If a private or incognito browser window allows you to get past the error, but clearing your cache otherwise does not, make sure you are clearing your cache "for all time" if that option is available; otherwise the default may be to clear some recent cache data but leave older cache data intact.

If your incognito settings have add-ons disabled by default, that might indicate a problem with an add-on could be related to the issue. Try temporarily disabling add-ons in your browser to see if that avoids the error. Then try re-enabling add-ons one at a time (other than NoScript, Ghostery or other script-blockers which can trigger this problem).

Yes, I'm getting that message now when I switch between accounts and can't sign in. Very frustrating. Cleaning out your browser History and cache fixes it but have to do it sometimes a couple times a day.

I do not think you are doing anything wrong at all -- whatever security setting is being triggered is far too sensitive, and lots of folks are suddenly having the same problem as you are right now.

Something similar happened a couple of years ago and folks had problems until the security settings were dialed back to avoid the false triggering.

Is this ( pardon our interruprion) message some sort of malign virus, an out of control mischiefmaking nonentity with a mind of its own,

Surely this is form of harassment, a kangaroo court of faceless accusers with no resort to justice.

9/15/24 Same, locked out. Tried Edge, Firefox and disabled all add-ons.
As you were browsing eBay, something about your browser made us think you were a bot. Still getting this message. Even disabled VPN. Terrible, I need to list an item.

There are a few reasons this might happen:

You're a power user moving through this website with super-human speed.
You've disabled JavaScript in your web browser.
A third-party browser plugin, such as Ghostery or NoScript, is preventing JavaScript from running.

This false bot detection is a real problem. My selling account is set to 1-day fulfillment, and I'm having trouble logging in to my account to ship items on time.

There is no rhyme or reason for this false detection. I've tried everything. I've had to switch browsers to get logged in so I can ship.

I am having the same issue in the Chrome browser. I have no plug-ins enabled for eBay, and I am not a power user. Javascript is allowed. This is very frustrating.

They use java for all their promotional ads - its amazing how clean a listing looks without the obscene clutter of their ads.

Yes. I'm trying to start a new account because eBay deleted my account after some years away. Now I'm a bot, apparently. No way to fix it.

I am not experiencing this issue on eBay currently, but I have in the past, and I have also encountered similar issues on other sites. I have two main comments about it:

  1. Why are we expected to accept that bots operated by major corporations (like eBay's that are flagging humans as bots) are good, and those operated by individuals (like the ones presumably being filtered out) are evil?

  2. Are we sure that eBay's bots are mistakenly flagging humans as bots? Or could it be intentional? The beginning of AI pushing the human race out of existence...

It is Slowwwwwww and is more expensive to the buyer. In the past items I have ordered will sit at the hub for around 2 weeks. I avoid ebay unless I cannot get it elsewhere.

Hi, I have a friend who had an interesting experience recently that fell under this issue. They sold an item, packed and dispatched to the UK Ebay hub, this was midway through the period as the pause occurred. They then received a message from the buyer that they had checked tracking and discovered that the item had disappeared on ebay, no advice. It then turned out that the tracking had been fudged and the package was with them but not forwarded on to the USA. A few hours of to and fro to get the answer that it was due to the tariff dilemma. NO fault of the buyer(who had paid) or the seller ((who had been paid) and a strange response that the item could not be delivered. The buyer would be refunded in full, the seller would keep payment and the item would not be returned. Strange, Ebay must be hurting paying our both sides of the deal+

  1. Start building out the brand and promoting the heck out of Canadian sellers to our domestic market. Work with Federal/Provincial level governments in the push to build a strong presence here in Canada.

  2. Add other calculated shipping options than Canada Post UPS/FedEx for domestic shipping - partner with couriers nationwide, leverage agreements and software integrations with courier reseller platforms such as Stallion Express. Build out a crowd sourced network using national/regional retail locations as drop points for rural regions, leveraging transport networks to move packages to courier pickup points, akin to the UK courier model but adapted to the Canadian realities.

  3. Create a centralized international shipping clearing house to aide micro businesses with affordable shipping rates and customs clearance to avoid pitfalls and complexities (akin to US eIS).

  4. Bring features forward to the platform from other localizations, such as prepaid best offer acceptance, etc.
