Sellers in the eBay Canada community forums are frustrated with lack of updates and communication about monthly chat with eBay staff that appears to have been discontinued without notice.

The open topic Canada community chat had been happening on a regular monthly schedule up through May of 2024 at which point it just stopped happening with no updates or information from eBay staff until another one was finally scheduled in October 2024.

That October chat only happened after community members pressed for answers.

There was no official warning that it had been temporarily stopped. (Last one was May.) There is no way to message you directly for anything urgent. And for many Canadian buyers and sellers eBay CS, Facebook/Twitter channels can be super frustrating to navigate with extremely slow followup. There are cases when users need immediate answers and you are our best resource.

Devon@eBay responded to confirm he was scheduling a chat event for October but did not provide any additional information about why there was a delay or what the future fate of the monthly chat might be - and after that chat, there has not been another one since or any updates.

In fact, the silence in the Canada community has been so deafening, Canadian sellers are now taking to the US community trying to get eBay staff attention since some of the same reps cover both forums.

Is the Canadian Discussion Forum still being monitored? We haven’t had a Q & A since October with notes it would be continued. Tagging is not getting a response.(Last tagged message responded to was Dec 6, 2024). Is there a current contact for this forum? Thanks, Lotzofuniquegoodies

That post was from January 23rd and has not received any response yet.

The apparent discontinuation of the chat with notice and extreme lack of communication follows a similar pattern that has plagued the US community forum in the last year as well.

Seller Advocacy and Community Engagement leader, Brian Burke, announced his retirement in early 2024 after almost 25 years at eBay at a time when many longtime community members feel seller engagement from the company has increasingly gone downhill.

Since Burke's departure, that perception has only grown with regular community chats with staff discontinued and replaced by occasional "Ask Me About" topics that are anything but "engaging."

The eBay for Business Podcast, which used to be co-hosted by Burke and Jim "Griff" Griffith was also abruptly discontinued in September, with Griff saying eBay's seller engagement efforts were "evolving."

And eBay closed off yet another avenue for seller engagement in December as eBay Council changes removed social hub and commenting, limiting interactions to one way surveys.

eBay has not responded to request for comment about the fate of the Canada community chat or future engagement efforts at time of publishing.
