eBay Consignment Expands Into Luxury Fashion With Partner Seller Linda's Stuff
eBay Consignment is expanding to include luxury fashion in partnership with longtime seller Linda Lightman, founder of Linda's Stuff.
eBay originally launched the partnership with Lightman to provide consignment services for luxury handbags in February 2023 and expanded to include more brands in September.
For Apparel, the eligible brands for the service include: Adidas, Aimé Leon Dore, Alexander Wang, Balenciaga, BAPE, Burberry, Cactus Plant Flea Market, Chrome Hearts, Comme des Garçons, Dior, Eric Emanuel, Fendi, Fear of God, Givenchy, Gucci, Jordan, Kith, Louis Vuitton, Nike, Off-White, OVO, Palace, Palm Angels, Prada, Raf Simons, Rhude, Stone Island, Supreme, Versace, Vetements, and Visvim.
Once the item is sold, you'll get anywhere from 60-80% depending on price range and items sold for less than $300 are also subject to a $15 admin fee per item.
Just like with handbags, apparel items sold through eBay Consignment may also go through Authenticity Guaranteed, if they qualify for that service, on top of the authentication check provided by Linda's Stuff.
Does the eBay consignment service authenticate the items I submit?
For Apparel: As part of the listing process, our consignment partner authenticates all luxury apparel items. Eligible items that sell for $200+ are verified again through the eBay Authenticity Guarantee service before being shipped to the buyer for extra peace of mind.
As we noted with the handbag service, double authentication on some items seems more than a little clunky, likely to cause delays before buyers receive their items, and not likely to lead to positive buyer experiences.
If Linda's Stuff is already doing their own authentication and they are trusted enough to be the sole seller partner for this consignment program, why should buyers then have to wait even longer for their purchase to have it sent through a second authentication process?
Some sellers have also questioned the choice to use only a single seller to partner with and promote for eBay Consignment.
eBay has long maintained that their "competitive advantage" is they don't compete with their sellers (as opposed to larger rivals like Amazon), but it is increasingly clear that eBay has no qualms about placing their very heavy thumb on the scale in favor of some sellers over others.
Between the focus vertical and high value buyer strategies, curated and limited eligibility for eBay Live livestream selling, and exclusive partnerships and promotions, today's eBay can no longer claim to be "just a venue", as corporate decisions now play a major role in determining winners and losers on the platform.
