UPDATE 10-3-24

eBay has updated the UK Consignment page to correctly reflect 132 Million active buyers, not 155M.

eBay is expanding their luxury handbag consignment service to the UK in new partnership with Luxe Collective Fashion.

eBay consignment | Got a luxury handbag to sell? | eBay.co.uk
eBay consignment handles everything for you, turning your luxury handbag collection into cash.

How eBay UK Consignment Works

  • Get started - Fill in the intake form by answering just a few questions about yourself and the item you want to sell.
  • Post it - Use the prepaid, insured postage label to send your item to our partner. Once received, they will handle everything for you, from photographing your item to getting it listed and ready to sell.
  • Get paid - Once the partner has done all the work and your item is sold, you'll receive your payment quickly and safely.

Who is providing the consignment services?
eBay has partnered with experienced luxury seller, Luxe Collective Fashion, to provide the service and enable a trusted and seamless process for customers throughout the consignment journey.

Luxe Collective Fashion has recently built a state-of-the-art warehouse and facility equipped to handle your consigned items from start to finish. All of the postage labels they provide are insured for the value of the items, and your items will be carefully handled and stored by Luxe Collective Fashion throughout the photographing and selling process.

How does eBay consignment work?
It’s easy! Simply fill out the consignment intake form linked in this page. Then, submit your consignment intake form, print your postage label(s), and send in your items to the partner. eBay consignment is conducted by a large and experienced partner.

Once our partner receives your item(s), their team of professionals will research the item(s) and send a competitive selling quote, which you will have 7 days to accept or reject. The partner will contact you to obtain further information for items over the value of £10,000.

Upon you accepting the selling quote, the partner’s team of professionals will do item and quality checks, and then photograph, price, and list the items for you on ebay.co.uk. In the event that the item does not sell after 90 days, it will also be listed on the partner's own website.

Simply wait for your items to sell, and then collect your earnings.

Consignment rates for the UK are similar to the same program in the US, ranging from 20-40% of the sale proceeds paid to the consignment partner - thought there appears to be some discrepancy between the rate chart and the examples given whether the first tier is under £1,500 or under £1,000.

And that's not that only discrepancy - this page also claims that you can reach 155 Million active buyers across the world with the consignment program.

However, eBay's Q2 2024 earnings report showed only 132 Million Active Buyers, marking the 9th consecutive quarter with less Active Buyers since Q1 2018.

Note: eBay changed the definition of GMV and Active Buyers at the end of 2021 and restated both figures going back to 2018 (chart reflects restated figures per eBay's amended reports.)

So either eBay somehow magically picked up ~23 Million more Active Buyers in Q3 (in which case it would be a significant blunder to publicly publish that on this page before the next earnings report) or somebody made a very embarrassing typo.

eBay Consignment originally launched in the US last year, partnering with longtime seller Linda Lightman of Linda's Stuff to provide consignment services for luxury handbags in February 2023 and expanding to include fashion in March 2024.

Some sellers have questioned the choice to give exclusive access, privileges, and marketing for consignment services to a few chosen sellers, saying it gives these sellers an unfair advantage in the marketplace.

eBay long maintained that their "competitive advantage" is they don't compete with their sellers (as opposed to larger rivals like Amazon), but programs like this make it increasingly clear that eBay has no qualms about placing their very heavy thumb on the scale in favor of some sellers over others.

Does eBay Compete Against Its Sellers?
VP Seller Experience Xiaodi Zhang says eBay doesn’t compete with sellers - but is that really true?

Interestingly, at eBay Open 2024 last week it seemed someone had finally gotten the message through to CEO Jamie Iannone to stop using that line about "not competing with sellers" - which is definitely no longer true now that eBay is selling on their own site under subsidiary TCGPlayer brand in direct competition with third party collectible card game sellers.

eBay claims not to compete with sellers while setting up shop on its own platform under subsidiary TCGPlayer brand - where’s the transparency?
