eBay announced today there will be changes to Final Value Fees for handbags effective September 30th, 2021.

eBay is significantly increasing fees on handbags under $2000 and decreasing fees for handbags over $2000, clearly targeting the "High value buyers" CEO Jamie Iannone spoke about in the Q2 earnings call.

This mirrors the fee structure changes announced back in April for the luxury watches category. In both cases, sellers of lower priced items appear to be taking the brunt of price increases to subsidize programs and initiatives that largely won't benefit them, like authentication or escrow services.

Side note: it's nice to see that eBay has included fee comparison charts once again in this announcement. It's something that has been a bit of an issue in the past with fee increase updates and I'm glad to see eBay has figured out how to present it in an "understandable and digestible" way.

I've personally have had no bad dealings when purchasing on eBay. On the other hand, I ignore all emails from eBay having anything to do with "store-wide" sales.

I find USPS Ground Advantage rates under 16oz to be competitive, and usually the lowest rate out there.

Above a pound has been a different story, with USPS Ground Advantage NOT at all competitive with the UPS SurePost rates offered via PirateShip and some marketplaces. But I’ll have to see how rates sort out now that USPS has dropped last mile delivery for UPS.

A fair deal? Depends on what the item is. For the examples you show, I’m not surprised at all about the price shenanigans. Jacking up so-called “list prices” and then discounting from the fake price is a game as old as the hills. Caveat emptor. That game is harder to play in certain collectible categories where I both sell and buy, since most buyers of those items are savvy enough to see around any pricing games, and most sellers do not engage in such tactics.
