UPDATE 10-21-24
eBay has revised their original announcement and is now telling sellers USPS holiday surcharges will apply, effective October 27.
USPS will apply additional rate increases that will go into effect on October 27, 2024 for peak season. We’ve outlined the changes to eBay Labels below.
Zones 1-8
Flat Rate Envelopes & Boxes
Priority Mail will see increases on flat rate envelopes and boxes ranging from $0.50 - $1.20. Priority Mail Express will increase $1.55 on all envelopes.Cubic Pricing
Priority Mail cubic pricing will increase from $0.30 - $0.80 and Ground Advantage cubic pricing from $0.30 - $1.25.
That confusion could certainly explain strange things sellers have been noticing with USPS Ground Advantage on the platform over the last few days - did eBay mess up and launch the new rates early or were they supposed to go into effect before and the original announcement was wrong all along?
eBay has posted an update for sellers on peak season holiday surcharges and rate increases for UPS, FedEx, and USPS - but the good news is, if you print labels through the platform, some of the surcharges won't apply!
Here's what you need to know:
USPS
USPS announced peak season rates beginning October 6, 2024.
However, most of these charges will not apply when you purchase your labels on eBay.
Shipments that will have the published peak season surcharges applied on eBay Labels are:
- Packages shipping to Zone 9 (US Territories and some military addresses)
- Packages weighing 21 lbs or more (all zones)
- Packages with a dimensional (DIM) weight of 21 lbs or more (all zones)
- Packages shipping to or from Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico
Postage provider Pirate Ship also published an update about the USPS Holiday rates, pretty much in line with eBay's announcement, which likely means this information will apply across most other marketplaces and service providers who offer negotiated discounted USPS rates.
FedEx
While base package pricing has not increased, FedEx has published a full schedule regarding additional handling surcharges, oversize surcharges and demand surcharges for all domestic FedEx shipments this season, including eBay Labels.
- Additional Handling Surcharges: Beginning September 30, FedEx is increasing the additional handling surcharge to $7.75 - $10.00. For eBay Labels, all you need to do is enter correct weights and dimensions when printing your label, and we will calculate the surcharges for you.
- Per Package Demand Surcharges: Also beginning September 30, demand surcharges of $1.00 - $3.15 will go into effect, depending on service and date range.
- Oversize surcharges: For packages over 50 lbs., there will be oversize charges of $39.50 - $100.00, depending on service and date range.
