eBay CEO Jamie Iannone Praises Sellers' Hard Work & Dedication In Holiday Video
eBay CEO Jamie Iannone has taken to LinkedIn to post a message of thanks to sellers for their hard work and dedication during the busy holiday season, saying they are the "backbone" of the marketplace.
Hey sellers! Thank you so much for all the hard work, dedication and excitement you've brought to our marketplace in 2024.
I love hearing stories about how you turned your passions into thriving businesses as well as your feedback for how eBay can better fuel your success.
Thank you for all that you do to make our seller community so special. eBay is truly extraordinary, all because of you.
It's somewhat telling that the pre-recorded messages was only posted on LinkedIn, a social media site geared more to Iannone's professional executive peers than the wider eBay seller base, but apparently nobody at eBay could be bothered to post the same video on other social networks where sellers gather or even in the eBay community forum that he says sellers help to make so special.
The lack of direct engagement from eBay executives has been an ongoing and growing sore spot, from virtual events like eBay Open that serve up bland pre-recorded content to waning official participation in the community and embarrassing and frustrating "Ask Me About" chat sessions that leave sellers with more questions than answers - many sellers are not feeling very valued or truly appreciated by eBay this holiday season.
As for being the "backbone" of eBay, many sellers are struggling under that weight as the company continues to turn its sights toward squeezing more revenue from fees and advertising products rather than finding ways to attract more buyers and increase sales across the platform.
This holiday season will be particularly rough on sellers' bottom lines since eBay decoded to sneak in rate hikes for both Promoted Listings General Cost Per Sale ads using Dynamic pricing and Promoted Listings Priority Cost Per Click ads just weeks before Black Friday - with no notice and stealth policy page edits to try to cover their tracks.
Some sellers in Australia are also getting an unhappy holiday surprise, receiving email notices that they owe eBay hundreds of dollars in shipping and fees that were previously unpaid due to a technical issue that dates back to July 2024.
And an Entrepreneur of The Year Award winner would love to have a word with Canada GM Garry Thaniel after a shocking and disappointing experience left her feeling pushed to diversify to other platforms, specifically because of lack of engagement and feeling like her business is not valued by eBay.
Since Jamie asked for feedback, here's your chance to make your voice heard (even if you aren't on LinkedIn) - let us know in the comments below what you'd love to see eBay do to better fuel your success!
