eBay Item Page Design Changes Remove Available Quantity & Sold Numbers
eBay appears to be tinkering with the view item page design again, with users reporting Available Quantity and Sold numbers are no longer visible to buyers.
The quantity available on listings is no longer showing the exact number available and only after one is sold its reads The #sold, but not how many more are left. Prior to today, 8/15/24, listings always showed the number available and how many have been sold. this feature on the App seems to be okay. WHATS goin on?
It used to show 4 available 2 sold... for example...this is NOT just my listings...I see it on everyones today
Longtime community member WastingTime101 chimed in to confirm the change is impacting both single item and variation listings and that it could dramatically curtail multiple quantity sales as buyers have to play a guessing game and test to see how many items might be available.
This is really bad...It's beyond unhelpful for both buyers and sellers to not see quantity available. This new view makes it look like there's only 1 available - I checked both single item listings and variation listings...
...if one does decide to non-intuitively enter a number other than 1 in the quantity box, they have no clue how many are available so they just have to keep entering numbers as a guessing game to find out how many the seller has?
This explains why I've seen an uptick in buyers asking me how many I have of various items.π
This new display appears to either be in testing or a phased rollout as not all users are currently seeing it, or may only be seeing it in certain browsers, and those who are seeing it have also seen slightly different versions of it being shown throughout the day - so whatever eBay is doing here, it's clearly still in flux.
The change has also renewed seller calls to add the ability to select quantity in the new shipping and returns pop up experience - critical functionality that is currently missing.
This is utterly ridiculous because now I have to keep typing a number in the qty box and lowering it until it no longer says "enter a lower number." So the information is still publicly available, but that is a pain in the you know what to have to do that, especially for somebody like me who often buys things in bulk.
Combine that with the lack of a shipping tab, and now it is a ROYAL PAIN to try to figure out the actual shipping cost for multiple items. The only way I've found to do this is to put the items into my cart and then go halfway through the checkout process.
That shipping pop up is so freaking annoying. I rely on being able to change my location on the shipping tab and enter various quantities to help my buyers when they ask shipping questions, and to help buyers and sellers on this forum when they have shipping questions. Inability to change quantity on the shipping pop up bleeps me off. I hate when vital functionality is removed with redesigns.
I've speculated that eBay may eventually remove public visibility of quantities sold ever since they removed the link to sold history from the item page view last year and have continued to push sellers to use Product Research (formally known as Terapeak) for sourcing and listing research.
But removing the quantity available for purchase makes absolutely zero sense from a buyer experience perspective - unless of course eBay is hoping doing so will create more single item sales instead of multi-quantity in one order to goose per transaction fee revenue and GMV?
I can't imagine that strategy would pay off versus the amount of sales that might be lost from potential buyers who may simply not make a purchase if they believe there is only a single unit in stock, but anything's possible.
