Trading card collectors were left scratching their heads this week when an apparent eBay glitch caused onsite search to show random and extremely irrelevant results.

The issue may be affecting other categories as well, but reports in the eBay community show searches for sports trading cards are particularly heavily impacted.

Is the search engine down?
So I was looking for certain type of football card, and when I clicked search it took longer than usual to load results. And the items that showed up weren’t even football cards. They were live crickets, magazines, music albums, etc. Are you guys doing through the same thing?

Single sports cards
My eBay search engine is not working when I search individual sport cards. The search engine seems to work for everything else. This is a problem because I buy and sell sports cards and can’t find any where to fix this issue. Thanks!

Is eBay search working?
I tried to search Joe Mauer rookie card and my results were all types of sports cards (but no Joe Mauer). I’ve tried a few other searches but I’m getting nothing related to my search term. Has something changed recently to break the search function?

Search results issues.
When I search for something, the search results are no where near what I am search for. For example if I search for a sports card my results would range from live bugs to Picasso paintings but absolutely nothing on the sports card I’m looking for. Any idea what’s going on? This happens on both mobile app and chrome.

Search bar not working
I’ll search something like baseball rc auto and it’s showing me pants and tvs? Put in specific names of players and getting random crap that has zero connection. If you have items up for sale today people can’t find them.

These major search snafus are becoming increasingly common as eBay works to shoehorn AI into every aspect of the site in their quest to "position eBay as a top-tier technology company."

And this most recent technical foul couldn't come at a worse time as The National Sports Card Convention kicks off today with eBay promoting a Marquee Auction and several eBay Live events to capitalize on the occasion.

eBay support on Twitter has acknowledged they are aware of the issue, but alarmingly they are unable to provide any kind of timeframe for when it might be fixed.
