eBay Trading Card Price Snafu Causes Items To Sell For Less Than Intended Price
Trading card sellers report glitch in eBay app changes prices when creating listings, creating havoc with some items selling for far less than they should and others showing double or triple the price the seller entered in the listing form.
Currently there are over 2 dozen active threads in the eBay community about the problem, not to mention countless posts across social media - and so far every seller who has impacted appears to be selling in trading cards categories.
This morning, I tried posting a CJ Stroud card for a starting bid of $249. When the listing posted, it was showing a price of $123. So I deleted it tried again same thing. Then I deleted that one posted a examinant price of $500, and it posted at $123. Then I posted it again at 122 and it came up as $123.
I also tried just posting to double-check an old Barry Bonds card for 99 cents and it came up as a $1.15. Has anyone else been seeing these kind of pricing errors? Thanks!
I am trying to sell a card and every time I do post it and I put the price in it goes through until I go and post it live and it's way off the price that I put in.
I've done it three times that I put $75 in and it goes down to $7 when it shows listed I had to end the post to try to do it and it did three times and I'm not going to post it until I figure out what's going on
I've listed hundreds of products with no issue and just a few days ago, eBay started changing my listing price to a default of either 99 cents or a penny. Every time I submit a new item to sale on my cell phone, I have to go to my desktop and revise the listing to my original sales price and shipping.
It's not only changing my price, it's defaulting all shipping to USPS Ground Advantage.
Today, the 1st of the month, I began listing more baseball cards on Ebay. After listing the card, I checked my selling hub later, and all the prices on my listings had changed. Something I listed for $19..99 shows up in my selling list as selling for $2.72.
It seems the pricing snafu is going in both directions, while many report eBay is lowering the price drastically, others say it is being increased instead.
I created a listing and the buy it now price was set at $50 but when I previewed it, it was $35. Redid the listing and it changed to $81
Hey, trying to set up a Sports Card listing and it keeps changing the buy it now price from what I had entered DRASTICALLY... like double or 50% more in most cases. I've tried a bunch of different angles and have the latest update.
The issue appears to be impacting both auction and buy it now listings, and while not every seller has specified whether they use the app or desktop experience, of those who did specific it seems all were using the app - suggesting that switching to the desktop experience may be a possible workaround until eBay implements a fix.
This wouldn't be the first time in recent history that the eBay app failed trading card enthusiasts specifically - collectors were left scratching their heads in July when a glitch caused search to show random and extremely irrelevant results during the biggest trading card show in the country.
eBay has also introduced new features and tools specific to the trading cards categories, including price guide and collections tools, and is also increasingly inserting AI into the user experience especially in the app.
Is this glitch the result of price guide information and AI run amok?
It's possible as some sellers have suggested it appears eBay is turning on the option to Autofill Pricing by default without seller input, resulting in prices being set at what eBay determines similar or matching items to be.
eBay has so far not publicly commented on whether they will provide protections for cancellation metrics and negative feedback for sellers who may need to cancel orders due to this error.
Let us know in the comments below if you're seeing prices change on newly created trading card listings and if so, whether the listing was created in the app or desktop experience!
