eBay UK has announced eBay Balance, bringing greater flexibility to how sellers use and manage their earnings on the site, similar to Spendable Funds in the US - but watch out for changes to scheduled payouts!

eBay Balance is part of a larger announcement bringing fee-free selling to UK private sellers across all categories except Motors.

eBay UK Drops Selling Fees For Private Sellers Across All Categories Except Motors
eBay appears to be expanding fee free selling in UK to all categories (except Motors) as competition for consumer to consumer sellers heats up.

The feature allow sellers to use sales proceeds to pay for shipping labels, shop for new items on the platform, starting October 16th.

Experience enhanced flexibility with eBay balance, allowing you to use your earnings for purchases, shipping labels, and more. Effortlessly manage and access your funds.

Use your earnings to shop on eBay and more
From 16 October, you'll be able to enjoy greater flexibility with your sales earnings with the introduction of eBay balance. Use your earnings to easily and conveniently make a purchase, and pay for delivery labels, promoted listings, and more.

At checkout, just select 'eBay balance' as your payment method. You can use as much or as little of your balance as you like, or combine your balance with another payment method to cover the full amount. Plus, easily withdraw your funds when you need them.

With eBay balance, your earnings are ready to use once your sales and funds are processed (holds may apply).

Importantly, this change will get rid of scheduled payouts completely for private sellers - once funds are processed, they will simply automatically sit in your eBay Balance until/unless you request to withdraw them.

Defaulting to leaving funds on account is a shrewd move for eBay, since they earn interest on those funds, but requiring sellers to manually request transfers seems like a giant step backwards in convenience and user experience.

eBay Admits Earning Interest In Payment Terms Update October 2023
eBay payments terms of service update October 26, 2023 includes interest earned on payments, EU DAC7 obligations & removal of RatePay in Germany.

There may also be times when using your eBay Balance as a payment method may not be available including on digital items, gift cards and coupons, specialty services and other transaction details or verification-based limits.

It's the introduction of a 'Bank of eBay' using words that sound customer-centric but which actually are purely eBay-centric as if one doesn't go get one's money it'll sit with eBay earning them interest (presumably to claw back revenue 'lost' fro t eh new 'No-Fee' service. There should be a means to opt out of 'Balance' and instead get paid directly

Idk if this’ll help anyone else, but I’ve just come up with a fix for my issue using Brave as a web browser.

My issue is that more & more listings I come across no longer seem to have a description available ~anywhere~ on their desktop web page and it’s been driving me CRAZY!! I just now thought to try toggling off Brave’s "Shields" function button, and BAM. Descriptions are back, baby. 😎

Do I feel a wee bit stupid? …Maybe. (Should’ve thought to try that sooner. Hindsight, blahblahbl—) HOWEVER! Should I have to turn off my lovely web browser’s security/privacy features just to peruse eBay listings? Absolutely not.

(Glad to find this article, even if it wasn’t 100% tied to what my latest issue was. Something has definitely been afoot within eBay, that’s for sure. 🤔)

Can you imagine if Jamie Iannone had account for every minute he worked during the day, and if he couldn't, then he would not get paid?
