eBay announces 2025 carrier rate updates, quietly confirms big changes to UPS Ground Saver/SurePost services.

The update came in the form of a community forum post, advising sellers of upcoming rate changes for USPS, UPS, and FedEx.

2025 Shipping Carrier Rate Changes
The major US carriers have announced their 2025 rate changes. We’ve outlined how the January carrier rate updates affect eBay Labels below. United States Postal Service (USPS) USPS peak pricing will end, and new rate changes will go into effect January 19, 2025. Great news, overall rates are most…

Here's what eBay had to say:

United States Postal Service (USPS)

USPS peak pricing will end, and new rate changes will go into effect January 19, 2025. Great news, overall rates are mostly decreasing compared to the current holiday rates in place since October.

However, some rates are increasing and we recommend you check weights and zones to see how these changes may impact your shipments. The eBay shipping calculator automatically updates when new rates are effective.

Priority Mail rates are generally decreasing for most weights and zones. However, there are some increases for packages up to 20 lbs in Zones 1 –5.

Ground Advantage rates are overall decreasing. However, there are some increased rates depending on weights and zones, including up to $0.24 for some packages under one pound, and up to $0.55 for packages between 4 and 6 pounds.

There will be no increases to Media Mail and eBay Standard Envelope rates on eBay Labels.

All of that is in line with what was expected based on changes to publish retail and commercial rates, with eBay's negotiated discounts of course impacting the rates sellers will see when purchasing labels through the platform.

FedEx

FedEx 2025 rate increases are effective now. FedEx Ground services are increasing by an average of 4.8%, and FedEx Express services are increasing by an average of 7.5%

This is also in line with what has been expected, based on FedEx published rate increases for this year.

UPS

UPS 2025 rate increases will go into effect January 20, 2025. There will be an average increase of 5.4% for UPS Ground, and an average increase of 12.7% for Ground Saver. The UPS Ground Saver service has some new program updates, you can learn more on our Seller Center page.

The UPS Ground increase is in line with what was expected, but the heftier Ground Saver increase and "new program updates" are a direct reflection of the ongoing fallout after UPS's contract with USPS for Surepost, Ground Saver, Mail Innovations and other services expired last week and was not renewed.

UPS has been scrambling to move that volume in-network while leaving shippers mostly in the dark about what's going on and PO Boxes, APO/FPO, AK, HI, PR and other territories were removed from the service with no notice.

UPS SurePost product page updates indicate the company is moving volume in-house with Network of the Future after USPS contract expired.

And now, in yet another sign of confirmation that there is likely no going back for UPS, eBay's help page follows other label providers like Pirate Ship in updating to show Ground Saver no longer supports shipments to those locations.
