eBay has quietly addressed another long-time user pain point, raising the limit for how many items can be combined into one invoice from 40 to 100.

The change was spotted by eagle-eyed sellers in the eBay community and was met with a mostly positive response.

Thanks, eBay. Invoice can now have more than 40 items!

Today I was able to send a single invoice for 66 items. This is a long awaited, wonderful improvement. Formerly an invoice was limited to 40 items. This is good news.

With the 40 item limit, I had a customer that bid on auctions and got two invoices every week when the auctions ended. What I did was send an invoice for 40 items, then select an item that was outside that invoice to send another invoice, and toggled "hide invoiced items" and then all items not invoiced yet would appear on the second invoice.

That actually did work, but they didn't have that ability when they first changed their interface for sending invoices.

An eBay employee chimed in to confirm that the limit had in fact been increased and the new limit is now 100 items.

I wanted to jump in and add some more context here. We did get word from the Product team that the new limit for items within a single invoice is now 100!

But that wasn't enough to please everyone with some sellers saying they don't think there should be a limit at all, others lamenting the timing, and some expressing frustration that changes like this often aren't communicated proactively in public announcements.

Actually I don't think eBay should have any limit. 100 is better than 40, but no limit would certainly be better than 100.

Great, too bad ebay didn't start that last week, 1st time I've had anyone hit the 40 listing mark but last week I sold 101 listings to one buyer, ebay sent 2 invoices for 40 and 1 for 21. But its all good, I ask the buyer if he wanted me to combine them all together but was over $750, he didn't want to sign for it so sent out 3 packages.

I hope I can use the new policy again and not take 18 years lol

devon@ebay Thanks for getting that info. Maybe the Products Team could put up an announcement, since this would seem to be one of those times when seller engagement would be a good thing.

That least bit is a fair point that should apply to any topic that significantly changes or impacts how buying and selling work on the platform, for example eBay should not make announced changes that hike up minimum ad rates with no notice to sellers and simply hide behind stealth policy page updates when they get caught.

eBay sneaks in Promoted Listings Priority Cost Per Click minimum bid hike in Q4 holiday season, squeezing sellers to make up revenue shortfall.

But even if it's understandable why eBay would not want to publicly announce unpopular changes like that, at the very least you would think they would want to shout from the rooftops when they really do have "good news for sellers" - but eBay is often quiet on positive updates too, like another recent change that finally added the long awaited ability to request combined shipping in the mobile app.

Strangely, neither one of these very positive and highly requested changes made it into eBay's year end seller update round up posted today with a very vague and frankly uninspiring look back and highlights from 2024.
