Etsy is adding extra savings to their Cyber Weekend sale with a $5 off orders of $25 or more offer stacked on top of seller-funded discounts.

Many sellers have already been participating in Etsy's annual Cyber Savings Spectacular Sale, offering their own discounts of at least 25% off to entice holiday shoppers, but now Etsy is sweetening the deal with extra savings.

Etsy seller and ecommerce consultant Cindy Baldassi posted a screenshot of the announcement on LinkedIn.

We're sweetening Cyber deals with an Etsy-funded offer!

To help make Etsy THE gifting destination this holiday, we're running another Etsy-funded offer for Cyber Monday! Starting tomorrow, December 2, shoppers can save $5 off qualifying orders of $25 or more (excl. taxes & shipping) for 24 hours only. There’s nothing you need to do to benefit from this promotion—we're covering the cost! Shops will need to accept Etsy Payments to qualify.

More details:

  • Etsy is funding $5 off qualifying orders of $25 or more (USD or the GBP, EUR, or CAD currency equivalent; excluding taxes and shipping) for buyers in the United States, United Kingdom, Eurozone*, and Canada.
  • Already running a Cyber sale? This Etsy-funded promotion will be applied on top of your discount as an extra incentive to encourage shoppers!
  • The promotion starts Monday, December 2 at 12am local time and ends 11:59pm local time.
  • There’s no limit to the number of times a buyer can use this promo.
  • Check back tomorrow for the official promo code along with a custom social media template you can share with your Instagram followers!

*Eurozone: Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Spain

That announcement appears to have been posted to the Etsy Community, in an area that is now blocked from public view since Etsy took most of the forum private to sellers only earlier this year.

The fact that it wasn't a public announcement seems to be causing confusion amongst some sellers, with several taking to Reddit with concerns that they would be forced to shoulder the cost of the discount.

Is Etsy eating these discounts? I looked all over, not listed under the "Sales and discounts" or the "Join the next sales event on Etsy" pages but it shows up on all my listings.

I'll need to check the math, because I got a massive ton of sales from this Cyber2024 promo and I don't remember opting into it. Thankfully I've baked a 20% discount into all my default pricing but I still don't enjoy surprises like this.

'£5 of with code CYBER24' ...WHAT?!!

UPDATE:

Just had a direct text chat with Etsy... YES, Etsy ARE covering the extra $5/£5... but my question is then, WHY was that not mentioned (as far as I know) to sellers?! We could have promoted that on our socials! Also, would have stopped me wasting 30mins this morning panicking that I'd turned something on, when I hadn't!

Do you think Etsy should do more to communicate with sellers in advance when they plan to run Etsy-funded discounts? Let us know in the comments below!

I've had this happen a few times, and it confused me. One seller alleged that they had to use Amazon's services to make sure I got my item in time. I recently bought something simple, and the seller made a mistake. They'd sent me 3 different messages, one of them too early, telling me they hoped my item arrived in perfect condition. The next day, the item was marked as shipped, and I got an official Ebay shipping email. The seller was using direct messages to give me item updates. If I wanted Amazon, I'd have used them myself! lol

Happening to me too. On my active listings page (with the full list) it looks fine, but when I click on them, many have the random characters. I reported it, and that's when one glitch led to another! As I was typing the message after clicking the "?", letters were repeatedly not coming up (usually one or two at the end of a word). I was finally able to get the message entered, but how tedious!
