Etsy Tweaks Gift Mode In August 2024 Update

Etsy's monthly update roundup for August contains some important tweaks and changes to Gift Mode features like teaser videos and messaging settings as sellers start prepping for Q4 holiday rush.

Here's what Etsy says is changing for gift settings this month:

Improvements to fulfilling gift orders

In January, we launched Etsy gift teaser to all buyers globally opening up more possibilities for last-minute shoppers to purchase extra-special gifts from sellers like you. And over the past few months we’ve continued to improve the gift shopping experience through gift teaser video messages and themes and the expansion of Gift Mode to all global markets.

We heard your feedback about gift orders! We’re making a few changes to the seller experience that will make fulfilling gift orders more seamless and efficient.

Clarifying the ‘note to seller’ field
Gift buyers are 4x as likely to use the ‘note to seller’ field than non-gift buyers—and often use it to ask you to add a gift note (even when you don’t offer it!). We’re updating the ‘note to seller’ copy in cart and checkout to better clarify to buyers where gift messages should be entered.

Adding a new gift teaser badge to orders
We know it can be confusing to see a gift note attached to an order when your messages are disabled. We’re adding a NEW badge to orders in Shop Manager to show when a gift teaser is included on an order.

Alerting you of a gift teaser added post-purchase
We’ll be making a change that allows buyers to add a gift teaser post-purchase. When that happens, we’ll badge the order in Shop Manager with the 3 gift badges.

Updating enabling and disabling messaging
We’ve updated the messaging in Shop Options to make it clearer to enable or disable offering gift messages with purchases.

Gift Teasers were introduced earlier this year, along with Gift Mode AI powered gifting discovery as part of Etsy's efforts to be the "go to" site to find the perfect present for any occasion.
