Etsy Testing New Sale Discount & Refund Features For Buyers & Sellers
Etsy is testing a few new features for buyers and sellers, offering more options for how buyers can receive and use refunds and how sellers can set up sales and discounts for their shops.
First, as part of a monthly roundup, Etsy revealed that buyers who request returns can receive refunds immediately in the form of credit that can be used to shop on the platform.
Testing out giving buyers the option to request their refund via Etsy credit
We’re experimenting with a new way for buyers to get an immediate refund for their purchase–in the form of Etsy credit they can put toward their next order! With Etsy credit, buyers can shop for something new sooner. This doesn’t change anything in your workflow, you’ll process refunds the same way you do today.
Sellers have also noticed a new option when creating a discount offer, questioning whether it is a test or slow rollout.
Etsy seller and ecommerce consultant Cindy Baldassi noticed this new option and noted it seems like a permanent choice, but it has been announced yet and Etsy hasn't updated the Help pages with any information about it.
Sellers who have the option available should see it on the Sales & Discounts page, with a popup that says:
Here's how discounts with order minimums work
You choose the discount and the minimum shoppers have to buy to get it—this can be a number of items or how much they spend. For now, this type of sale applies to your whole shop, so you can't choose specific listings.
The next screen then prompts the seller to set the discount percentage, whether the order minimum should be based on number of items or order total, the start date amd where the offer should be valid.
Baldassi notes this feature creates a standard sale that cannot run for more than 30 days and you can't select individual listings or sections, only the entire shop.
She also discovered some limitations, including losing the ability to set a minimum order amount for a free shipping sale:
In my shop, I have the option to set up the US $35 free shipping guarantee, but that is the only minimum option.
I can set up a free shipping sale for my whole shop for either everywhere I ship or for Canada only, but I can no longer run a free shipping sale in Canada for orders over $25, for example. I'd have to offer free shipping on even the tiniest of orders, or offer it on individual listings/via shipping profiles.
