UPDATE 7-10-23

PayPal appears to be experiencing another disruption that has caused it to be temporarily removed from eBay as a payment option.

As usual, you'll need to use a different payment method or wait for the PayPal issue to be resolved before checking out on eBay.

UPDATE 5-12-23

PayPal appears to be down again and I'm receiving new reports that it is not currently an available payment method on eBay.

As usual when this occurs, you'll need to use an alternate payment method on eBay or wait for the issue to be resolved.

UPDATE 2-3-23

I'm seeing a spike in reports of PayPal not being available on eBay again and it coincides with another spike of reports of PayPal being down all together.

PayPal's system status shows a current disruption impacting multiple products:

For now, you'll need to use an alternate payment method on eBay or wait for the issue to be resolved.

UPDATE 10-31-22

Reports once again of PayPal not showing as an available payment option on eBay listings or in eBay checkout. It looks like Down Detector is also once again showing problems at PayPal so I believe this is likely just another case of a temporary service disruption on the PayPal side.

I had previously suggested to eBay that if the API connection is broken and they can't process PayPal payments, they should grey out the option and provide a message that says something lke "service not currently available" rather than just remove it completely to avoid causing a panic - but so far they have not taken that suggestion.

Re: So what’s up with ebay not taking PayPal payment?
- tagging you here as a suggestion for the payment best practices post you made yesterday. https://community.ebay.com/t5/Payments/Best-practices-for-Seller-payment-and-Buyer-checkout-issues/m-p/33215656#M164168 I understand this is an issue on PayPal’s side, so there really isn’t anything eBay…

In the meantime, until PayPal sorts out whatever the problem is, you'll either need to use a different payment method or wait to complete your eBay purchase until service is restored.

UPDATE 9-14-22

I'm receiving reports that once again, PayPal is not showing as an available option on eBay listings.

It looks like Down Detector is currently showing problems at PayPal and PayPal's Status page is showing API issues causing service disruptions for some products.

That's the most likely cause if you are currently unable to use PayPal on eBay, Etsy or other websites.

You may need to use alternate payment methods until the issue is resolved.

UPDATE 6-5-22

There appears to be another outage with eBay and Etsy users both reporting PayPal payments currently not working.

More info:

PayPal Not Working On eBay, Etsy 6-5-22
Users report problems using PayPal to pay for purchase on both eBay and Etsy.

UPDATE 4-20-22

The issue appears to be resolved. PayPal is now showing as an available payment option on eBay listings again and DownDetector shows PayPal has been restored to normal service levels.

Sellers in the eBay community have noticed PayPal is suddenly no longer showing on their listings as an available payment option for buyers.

Paypal disappeared ?
Hi, i tried to buy a few things today and i cannot the paypal option anywhere ? Can you help me with the issue ? thanks

i tried to buy a few things today and i cannot the paypal option anywhere ? Can you help me with the issue ?

I'm wondering the same thing!!! They only option is Google pay or uploading a debit/credit card which I'm not going to do here.

There has been no announcement of any change in the payment processors accepted.

I looked at my own listings and there is no Paypal option.

When I checked one of my dotCA listings (I am a non-US seller and list on various sites including my home, Canada) not only was PP missing on both dotCA and dotCOM, but the Canadian site showed that payment could be made by Discover card, which is not accepted in Canada.

Looks like a nasty glitch.

PayPal no longer a choice?
I bought items this morning and used Pay Pal. I just tried to buy an item and Pay Pal isn’t even listed as a choice. I have to choose between Google Pay or entering card information. Why?
PayPal works everywhere except Ebay
I just wanted to report that PayPal works everywhere for me except Ebay. I bought delivery last night with PayPal. I bought groceries this morning with PayPal. But whenever I try to use PayPal with Ebay, the popup just spins and spins without anything happening. I have tried different computers/lapt…
Why can’t I pay with PayPal?
Where did the PayPal option go in the check out? I had to put my credit card information in because the PayPal option was removed. I don’t want to have to put my credit card information down. I want to use PayPal!

I navigated to a random listing from the eBay home page and can confirm, the PayPal logo no longer shows in the payments section of listings.

I can also confirm if you add to cart and go to checkout, there is no option for PayPal.

The same thing happens on the eBay mobile app for Android - no options for PayPal available.

The issue is bubbling up on social media as well.

According to DownDector.com, PayPal is currently experiencing reported problems, but it's not clear if that is related to this issue or not.

The eBay System Status page is currently reflecting problems with Buying, though it does not call out this PayPal issue specifically.

I'll update as more information becomes available. If you're experiencing this issue, let us know in the comments below!

This is the end of eBay for me after 20 years. There is no way to charge a small amount for packaging - eBay, on their 'Simple Selling' hide anything else so if you want to pack your, possibly fragile, item securely you will have to foot the bill for this. Today I queried with eBay why my £3.75 postage, which my buyer paid, was reduced to £3.06 in the breakdown as being eBay's estimate of the postage cost on the date it was listed (!!) and then i got nothing - i had to post it through Evri - it didn't even let me see the buyer's address until the label was printed. The label position on the page is then set so you need to use an A4 label sheet for every two labels rather than 4. I had a long and tortuous 'debate' on the phone with an agent who eventually told me that Simple postage is now mandatory and they will be letting seller know 'next week'. I am absolutely furious.

This, on top of Buyer protection Fee, has made it impossible to sell competitively on eBay. My buyers don't need protection from me!! I have 100% feedback rating over 20 years - this is just another money-making scam from eBay. The price with the protection fee is not competitive for anything and i am not even getting views let alone watchers!! Identical listings where items sold for £10 plus £3.75 postage and packing 6 weeks ago, have necessitated me reducing to £2.75, few people, if any looking, and now a silly offer of 75p!!!!! - Then i lose out on the postage as eBay pocket the difference between what Royal Mail Charge and their estimate of Evri! Evri - which used to be Hermes and smashed an antique set of China worth over £100 a few years ago by leaving the box out in the rain until it was so sodden that it collapsed!! Well done eBay - no regard for your customers!

Simple Delivery will be the end of eBay. At first, I thought they were trying to get the postage costs down, but as there was no Royal Mail collection option: "I live in a rural area, and Evri and Yodel don't turn up, so I choose to use the old system"., Today, I found an item I sold had postage of £10 and the buyer had pre-paid. I couldn't understand why the postage was so high, I then discovered I forgot to opt out of Simple Delivery. The poor buyer paid eBay £10 pp. I spoke to the buyer and we agreed to cancel and relist the item using the old system. She paid £6.99 postage, and the item will be collected by Royal Mail.
I've been on eBay for 20 years, through the early bad times and the good, but if Simple Delivery becomes mandatory, I'm off.
