UPDATE

Shopify says the issue has been resolved but some merchants would like more transparency about exactly what happened.


Some Shopify merchants are reporting buyers are unable to complete checkout in their stores today due to an error that causes the checkout button to loop back to the cart.

Shopify says the issue may be affecting stores where Google Tag Manager is present.

What happened?
Storefronts that use Google Tag Manager may have issues directing customers from the cart page to checkout. We recommend temporarily disabling Google Tag Manager code as a workaround while our developers continue to investigate.

So far, the stores reporting this issue all have a reference to Google Tag Manager (googletagmanager.com) somewhere in the theme code. Temporarily disabling that part of the theme code (which may be in the admin checkout settings) solves the problem for now. Our developers are continuing to investigate.

We have received reports that some merchants without Google Tag Manager may also be affected. The workaround of temporarily disabling Google Tag Manager may still be effective. We will continue to update you as we investigate further.

While Shopify continues to investigate, some helpful users are sharing workarounds they've tested to temporarily fix the issue by editing their theme files.

Not exclusive to shopify - experienced the same issues on an old ecommerce platform and removing GTM fixed it.

I sell an average of 4 items daily on eBay and my postman collects from my door, free. As I'm disabled, I can't drop anything off, so will have to sell elsewhere. eBay appears to be trying to kill itself.

I am done with ebay. Been a great place in the beginning ...... had such a GREAT time when ebay was young. Now it's just AI and garbage like ebay "saved feeds".
I'm just getting really tired of just about everything online... but especially stuff like "saved feeds". Done. Goodbye.

There has definitely been a change in reporting buyers and in the refund process. When I tried to report a false INAD, I repeatedly got an error message on the desktop. I was able to do so from the app, but the wording has changed to something like “disagree with return reason”. That was no big deal, but I used to be able to withhold original shipping in false INADs, and I couldn’t do that today at all.
