USPS rate changes are coming July 10th with impacts to market dominant products, competitive products and international special services.

The new First-Class Mail prices can be summarized as follows:

The Postal Service is also seeking price adjustments for Special Services products including Certified Mail, Post Office Box™ rental fees, Money Order fees and the cost to purchase insurance when mailing an item.

The proposed price and classification changes, approved by the Postal Service Governors, extend cubic rates to Priority Mail Commercial Base and introduce cubic rates for Parcel Select Ground® packages up to 1 cubic foot. If favorably reviewed by the PRC, those new prices can be summarized as follows:

While it wasn't specifically called out in the official USPS press release quoted above, the 221 page Notice of Price Change document also shows an almost 9% increase in Media Mail rates.

One bit of good news is Priority Mail Outboard Insurance will now include coverage up to $100 free of charge (previously $50).

USPS is also updating the way the distance between origin and destination ZIP Codes is calculated to determine zone assignment. Rather than using the distance between origin and destination plants, the Postal Service will use the distance between 3-digit ZIP Codes to determine zone on July 10, 2022.

eBay put out a reminder to sellers about the upcoming USPS increase and importantly noted there will also be an increase for eBay Standard Envelope Service.

USPS rate increases go into effect July 10, 2022, and for your convenience, we’re providing a summary of some of the most relevant changes below. For full details, please visit USPS.

While First Class Mail rates are increasing, this does not impact rates for First Class Package and most eBay shipments will not see an increase in cost.

We continuously work closely with our carrier partners to provide you with the best shipping rates on eBay Labels. While USPS has posted average increases, please remember the actual change in the rate depends on the weight and zone.

USPS Postage Rates

  • Media Mail rates will increase by an average of 9%

  • First Class Mail (1 oz.) letter rates will increase two cents to $0.60 from $0.58

  • First Class Mail International (1 oz.) letter rates will increase ten cents to $1.20 from $1.30

    USPS Special Services

  • Priority Mail will now include $100 of insurance free of charge (previously $50 of insurance was provided for free)

  • Rate increases for Domestic and International outbound insurance

  • Signature confirmation will increase $0.20

eBay Delivery Services

eBay standard envelope new rate structure:

  • 1 oz: $0.57
  • 2 oz: $0.81
  • 3 oz: $1.05

Hopefully eBay can avoid the problems they had with overcharging for Standard Envelope when prices increased last August.

eBay Overcharges for Standard Envelope Before Price Increase

They need to fix a very broken system full of nasty attitudes. The patrons no longer matter.

Was just checking to see if it would post without creating an account but….
eBay seller since 2022
Just started selling about a year and half ago

800 items sold 99.7 feedback

Recently I went away for family things for 30 days set my acct to be away … got back with items not received cases opened

I wasn’t able to revise existing listings post new listings OR refund the buyer from my eBay funds …

The items were caught up in recent wild fires but ended up being delivered late. I had to beg the buyer to let me pay them off of eBay to close the case because it was on hold and I wasn’t able to refund them from my eBay acct etc…. So luckily they obliged and I did … but ever since then my acct must be strikes as high risk because funds have been on hold 3 days after delivery since then indefinitely might I add… I get the run around everytime etc etc FINALLY I got someone saying it’s temporary it’ll be back to normal etc. these r all reps from escalated departments… one lady told me that with my history and feedback I’ve proved beyond doubt that I’m reliable seller and shouldn’t be on hold she put in for a appeal never heard back got the run around for another few months… they keep telling me I’ve been chosen for the new update they r rolling out total BS … do you believe that sellers will stay on eBay with these holds ? No they will simply go to another platform … they r 100% making money on the holds and use any reasoning to tell you basically no and keep profiting…. The get around is creating a new acct… these cases were closed without eBay having to step in and might I add I lost $$ and its been truly frustrating esp since I’ve built the acct up but I know I can do it again.. when they tell me its going to happen to all accts I just mention how my brother just opened one n now has immediate payments they don’t know what to say I don’t think they really even know.,, its sad n scummy but I see a class action lawsuit coming honestly ! I don’t know💬 if I forgot anything but well written thanks for the information. Have a great one!

As many have already quoted - us sellers now can not charge for packaging. I will be £500 a year out of pocket.
