Value Added Resource Week In Review 4-21-24
Welcome to the Value Added Resource ecommerce news week in review!
eBay News
CEO Jamie Iannone and CFO Steve Priest recently met San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan to discuss "shared priorities", eBay's commitment to the San Jose community and continued collaboration with city leaders amidst ongoing legal troubles and tax sharing scrutiny.
eBay also recently hosted a "seller week" at their San Jose headquarters, inviting several hundred Bay area sellers to attend presentations, panels, and social events with opportunities to interact with eBay staff.
Unfortunately, sellers who weren't invited or able to attend have to resort to other ways to try to gain executive attention - like longtime eBay Motors seller Joe Demarco (HubcapJoes) who took to YouTube this week with an open appeal to Iannone and VP Adam Ireland about recent changes to eBay's feedback removal system.
Not only are sellers finding eBay is no longer providing protections or appeals to remove unfair negatives, they're also increasingly blurring the lines between historical peer to peer buyer and seller feedback and product reviews, requiring buyers to rate items in order to leave feedback comments.
eBay is moving forward with plans to force discounted calculated shipping rates to be passed on to buyers as sellers continue to pushback on fees being charged on shipping costs.
Buyers and sellers have both experienced massive disruptions this week due to technical issues on the platform.
A shipping glitch that has been happening since April 7th is reverting default ship from and ship to addresses to old ones that are no longer valid, creating lost package chaos and business workflow disruption.
If your eBay sales have been down this week, it could be because eBay is blocking some buyers from purchasing - showing a message that says "this item is only available to buyers who haven't purchased 1 or more items from this seller in the last 10 days" in error.
Orders are also being randomly cancelled and refunded due to an unexplained "systems issue" with no warning and no apparent recourse if orders have already shipped.

Other Ecommerce News
Tax day is already stressful enough for many small business owners, but Etsy sellers got a double whammy as deposit problems left them wondering if they would have enough in their bank accounts to cover their payments to Uncle Sam.
Tire shoppers can now buy from third party merchants on Walmart.com and have them shipped to a Walmart Auto Care Center for easy installation, rivaling eBay Motors offering that leverages installation partners to provide the same service.
