Value Added Resource Week In Review 8-4-24
Welcome to the Value Added Resource ecommerce news week in review!
eBay News
We started the week with pre-earnings highlights and commentary before eBay reported Q2 2024 results showing stalled Active Buyer stats, barely noticeable GMV growth and a lowered Q3 forecast that raised questions about whether CEO Jamie Iannone's enthusiast buyer strategy is really paying off - especially after he dodged a direct question about mega-seller Burbank Sportscards defecting to Fanatics.
It appears TCGPlayer is no longer "one of eBay's most reputable sellers" as the eBay-owned company no longer displays Top Rated Seller badge in store profile.
Did eBay fail to live up to their own standards or is someone getting nervous about possible regulatory and legal implications of directly selling on their own site with no disclosure to consumers and third party sellers?

A recent change in how eBay is displaying some Promoted Listings ads on item pages is raising concerns about whether the company is using dark pattern practices to deceive consumers or if their AI systems have simply run amok.
Buyers are also crying foul over eBay's ad practices, pushing back on a recent change that has inserted disruptive and intrusive ads into the Purchase History experience on the mobile app.
eBay's new tool meant to help sellers track earnings and cost of goods suffered an embarrassing premature launch failure today with an incorrect link emailed to users and incomplete data showing in reports.
It's now over a week past the timeframe originally given for eBay to provide answers to the Ask Me About eBay Ads community discussion with no updates.
If eBay's own ads team is struggling this much to understand the new dashboard experience and provide in-depth details about how it works, how can it possibly be simpler and more intuitive for sellers?
eBay has introduced a new image-based listing feature for trading cards, building on COMC partnership to streamline selling process with "multiple listings from photos."
And registration is now open for eBay Open 2024, which will be a virtual event held on September 25-26 with over 30 seller-hosted kick off events across the country being held on September 24.
